Are You Wheat, Or Are You Chaff?

Matthew 3:12

“His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

  • Chaff is considered as 'useless' or 'unprofitable' (Luke 17:7/10, Matthew 25:14/30). It is that which may have had purpose, but chose to become useless and worthless overall. In today's terms, it is in reference to those who use the name of the Lord in vain, proclaim a vain imagination of Jesus and those who suppress the truth in unrighteousness (without repentance). It is, in a nutshell, those who reject Christ and continue on with the false joy in 'living a lie' (many even doing so in His name).

  • Wheat is considered that which is fully trusting in the Lord (John 14:26, John 16:13, Matthew 22:36/40, Matthew 28:18/20) and not trying to conform the Lord to 'fit' some denomination, some system, some vain imagination or fantasy 'in the name of God'. Faithful wheat is ROOTED in the Vine (John 15:1/8), growing and thriving for His glory. But chaff is rooted in the world (1st John 4:1/6, Romans 12:2). Chaff takes too much pleasure in this reality of madness and sin (Revelation 13:1/8), while wheat looks forward to the coming Harvest (Revelation 21:4).
