Bring every word and thought captive into the mind of Christ Jesus

If we cannot learn to bring every thought captive into the mind of Christ, into the Word of God, into the Holy Spirit, then we will easily be led in emotion and by the dictates of the world.

Psalm 19:14

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

• Have you ever said something so horrible against somebody that it kept you up at night because you wish that it had never entered into your mind or come out of your mouth? I know that I have on multiple occasions, facing torment due to realizing that my heart was exposed with something ugly that did not glorify God nor make Jesus known. I have done this to both brethren and unbelievers alike, and I can tell you that it eats away at you… sometimes even for days at a time.

• When we have the ‘right words’, they tend to come at the right moment and usually happen as a result of God directing our words that He may be glorified. The ‘trick’ is whether we are listening to the Holy Spirit (John 14:26, John 16:13), or if we are following what ‘sounds right’ from others, or in our own minds (2^nd Corinthians 11:3/4).

• As an author of many books, and one who generally writes 365 days a year, I have often looked back at things written in the past and been in awe of what the Holy Spirit spoke at those times, and been encouraged in how they reached others. I believe that each of us should seek to listen to the Holy Spirit when He is directing our thoughts and speech in a way that will glorify God our Father and make His Son Christ Jesus known.
