1st John 3:18/23
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
Anybody can say: "I love you", and it only being in that... words. In many cases, people who proclaim "I love you" do so out of habit, but do not take the time to consider if those words are just that, words. If our love is in word only, in many cases, it can turn out being nothing more than flies falling dead to the floor. If with action, it shows integrity. If with purity, it shows right intention. Love must be ACTIVE if it is to be true and not merely by speech only.
God has already shown us His love through His Son (John 3:16/21), creation, personal relationship and in His Holy Spirit, not leaving us to 'figure it out' (John 14:26, John 16:13). God has loved us with an everlasting love, loved us while we were yet sinners, and has never desired that we 'perish', as He takes ZERO PLEASURE in the death of the wicked (Ezekiel 18:23). Our aim as disciples of Jesus is to be in Matthew 22:36/40 and Matthew 28:18/20.
We are to love those within the flock with the same love that Jesus has loved us, whether in greeting or even in correction. Accountability is part of this love, as it keeps integrity intact, and helps us to be reminded that God is the One who holds the CHURCH together for His glory. Overall, our love is shown when we do what Jesus commands, without conforming it to a system, a program, an ideology, or a religion. We simply need to follow His lead and JOIN IN with His work, and 'they will know us by our love for one another'.
