1 Peter 4:1-2
Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
There is a distinct difference between true followers of Jesus, and false followers 'in the name of' Jesus. In 2026 especially we see multitudes professing the name of Jesus, but their 'fruit' is full of maggots, giving off a foul odor that few care to pick up on.
True followers of Jesus are grieved by sin, living a lifestyle and attitude of repentance. They do not hypocritically point out every little sin of others (while ignoring their own), but call out obvious patterns of behavior in love, calling for that brother or sister to repent and turn back to the Lord as they are also doing. We need to see sin in ourselves and others for what it is, and help each other out of it towards Jesus daily.
False followers continue in a sinful pattern of behavior with no repentance and no growth or change. They 'have a form of godliness, but deny its power'. Meaning, they play the 'appearances' game, doing the church shuffle, but having no real fruit in their walk. The title of 'Christian' is just of lip service and 'doing my own thing in His name'.
Christians must understand that WE set an example by Who we follow, because if we truly reflect Jesus, then we will reflect His teachings and character. But if we reflect an 'idea' of Jesus, then people will end up following that idea which has gaps, conformities and other questionable things that do not point to the truth.
