Psalm 17:15
As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.
“When I awake in Your likeness…” This is one of many references to 1st John 3:1/3, where when Jesus returns and we enter into our new reality with a heavenly body, shedding off the body of sin and death, it is then and only then when we will be as our resurrected Savior and King, sharing in the likeness of Life Everlasting.
For now, we face the reality of death, sorrow, misery, corruption and many other things that our Spirit groans to be set free from, and seeing that it may not be far off (Maranatha Lord Jesus). Even as we do face this harsh reality of a world marred by sin and death, we do not hold to an imaginary hope or something that is meaningless. We hold to the coming day of Revelation 21:4, where “all tears will be wiped away” and “all things will be made new”.
So yes, while right now some of you may be losing a loved one, facing an ugly divorce, seeing your children go down a dark path, wondering if you can love somebody again, be able to pay the bills and keep the roof over your head, among many other countless scenarios, we know that all of the misery we face on this side of eternity is only a passing, temporary thing, that we SHALL “awaken to His likeness”.
