1 John 2:1-2
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
- As followers of Jesus, we still sin. We don't practice sin (at least those who truly love Him), but as in the flesh, we are at war with the Spirit of new life in us.
- Jesus Himself intercedes for us not simply by His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead, but by standing in our place before the Holy and Righteous God who alone has the power to judge us perfectly. Jesus literally takes upon Himself what we wholly deserve... what love He has for us!
- As the world races into lawlessness, find yourself drawing closer to Jesus. If you become too comfortable or 'occupying until He comes' with the mentality of 'He will never come in my lifetime', you ultimately end up at 'let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die' and 'where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers have fallen asleep, all things continue as they were'.
