Psalm 34:18
The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit (Ready to repent/change).
God is close to those who experience loss, suffering, betrayal and brokenness. In fact, being in such a part of life places us in a position to grow closer to God. You know the saying: "misery loves company". This is a foolish saying and should be reworded as: "Misery can lead to growth". I say this as in my own walk, misery has ultimately led me closer to the Lord and given me opportunities to grow in my faith. Jesus uses misery in our walk at times to teach us the MOST VALUABLE lessons.
The book of Job and Ecclesiastes are good examples of what it means to 'suffer well' for the Lord. In these examples we learn that God is perfectly fine when our complaints and more than able to take them. However, we should not be surprised when His answer comes as trial and tribulation to only answer what we prayed for... when I have asked the Lord for patience, He has placed me into the path of difficult people and chaotic circumstances that brought me to lean upon Him and not my own understanding, or if I failed to do so, be able to repent and experience His gracious kindness and forgiveness.
Take your grief and struggles to God. He knows how best to refine us, even in moments of deep emotion. He does not ignore our emotions, but He most certainly gives us clarity through discernment and trust for His will and Grand Design for our lives. Part of the reason why the Holy Spirit is given to us is that we may learn to trust in His guidance (John 14:26, John 16:13) and learn to follow His conviction and correction when we sin and fall short or find ourselves in a pit that only draws us closer to the Lord.
